ACTIVITY BIO
As a boy when I would leave home for the day, my mother would often encourage me with the statements, “Remember who you are,” and “Look for the lonely.” As it has turned out, these have been key parts of my life’s mission. In the first 20 years of my life I was an Eagle Scout, missionary, and began my lifelong quest of tracing my ancestral roots.

In the second 20 years of my life, I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Brigham Young University, a Masters and Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in clinical psychology, had a research fellowship in Belgium studying alcoholics, married my sweetheart of 42 years so far, helped raise our 7 children, and served as a lay minister.

In the third 20 years of my life, I have been drawn to and labored to serve individuals with addictions, severe mental illness, youth and adults incarcerated, and others who are lonely, afflicted, and brokenhearted. These people, my family, colleagues, and my personal struggles, have helped me remember and become who I am. I have found that I have gifts of compassion, creativity, enthusiasm, persistence, and insight into synthesizing information into practical strategies for strengthening individuals and families.

BC PARTNERSHIP VISION
My dream of a Beloved Community is a systematic awakening of the worth of the soul of each person. Souls long to improve and this is assisted by integrated biological, social, educational, economic, psychological, and spiritual resources, to embrace their ancestry, culture, family, community, challenges and brokenness, and draw upon the strengths in those realms, rather than focusing on the limitations, and use those strengths to live abundantly and contribute to others. In other words, the Beloved Community is a society of individuals rising to their inherent hero status, and assisting others to do the same.
